Giliann Echo Karon is a writer and internet user based in Brooklyn, New York. She uses digital media to elevate new voices and foster community. Her screen time is probably too high.

We’re all glued to our devices. They’re how we embed ourselves in communities within walking distance or thousands of miles away. These communities have overhauled dominant systems or introduced a friend to something new. I’ve done both.

From 2021-2025, I served as Digital Associate, then Senior Digital Associate, at Accountable Tech, a nonprofit dedicated to reining in Big Tech’s societal harms. I managed the organization’s social media accounts, pursued partnerships with brands and creators, and produced graphics and short-form videos. I galvanized internet trends to meet people where they’re at, start conversations about issues that matter, and lead them to action. The Guardian published my research which revealed Google retains user location data for abortion clinics by default in violation of a July 2022 policy change. Google has since amended their policies to protect abortion seekers.

I’m looking to pivot full-time to digital marketing within the music industry. I’m grateful to have a larger-than-life social media presence, which I use to get my followers excited about music I love. I’m a seasoned writer for The Alternative, Northern Transmissions, and Post-Trash. Select work includes interviews with Ekko Astral, Merce Lemon, Trace Mountains, Feeble Little Horse, and Cola. I’m lucky artists have trusted me to review their albums. Recent favorites include Manning Fireworks by MJ Lenderman and Red Mile by Crack Cloud. In my free time, I’m convincing friends to join me at a show or cooking up a new Spotify playlist.

I hold a B.A. in Political Science from American University, where I minored in Media Communications and was — no surprise — a member of my college’s student radio station. My show “Ask a Punk” highlighted bands in the DC DIY scene.

Social media, notably Twitter and Tumblr, have always been my go-to sources for music discovery. For over a decade, I’ve used platforms that encourage fan participation and built lifelong friends along the way. My closest relationships are built around a mutual taste in artists. I strive to create that community for others and I’m always available for work.
